Located in Chestertown, Maryland, our family-run restaurant, café, and bakery is all about making food the way it should be: from scratch, with love, care, and purpose. At the Kitchen, we nixtamalize corn, ferment dairy, soak seeds, and butcher local meats using a nose-to-tail approach—all techniques inspired by our global adventures.

What started as a family side-hustle in 2019—led by our daughter Brianna and her first heart-stenciled loaf—is now the beating heart of the Modern Stone Age experience. Now, we’ve perfected our process, and our sourdough operation has grown into a full-fledged bakery crafting fresh loaves, pastries, focaccia, cookies, and more, every single day.

This isn’t just bread; it’s a tradition rooted in the time-honored process of wild fermentation. Every loaf is made with care, patience, and a touch of our family’s love (yes, that signature heart!). We believe this is how bread was always meant to be enjoyed: wholesome, nourishing, & bursting with flavor.
