Tips to Eat Local in 2026

We’re kicking off 2026 with something really special. Bill was invited onto FOX5 DC on New Year’s Eve to talk about something we care deeply about: how eatling local can improve your health and strengthen your community.

It’s a short five-minute segment, but it’s packed with ideas about how powerful your everyday food choices can be . . . not just for you, but for the farmers, producers, and small businesses who make up our local economy.

(the only recording we have is from the one on our phone from the Green room so sorry for any background noise/talking ;-)

One of the biggest themes Bill shared is that, when you choose to shop and eat locally:

  • you support our farmers,

  • you access nourishing food,

  • you help create and sustain local jobs,

  • you connect with a special sense of place, and

  • you keep money circulating right here in our community.

For restaurants that source locally, we become the connection point between you and the people who grow and raise your food and that’s something we’re incredibly proud to be part of here in Chestertown.

Bill also talked about one of our favorite topics . . . sourdough and why it may be one of the “most local” foods you can eat.

Our wild-fermented sourdough isn’t just created in Chestertown. It is shaped by it.

Every loaf is fermented with trillions of local bacteria and wild yeasts that exist only here, in this specific place. That means: our bread literally can’t taste the same anywhere else.

Just like wine has terroir - the unique flavor of a region - our sourdough carries the terroir of Chestertown.

It’s one of the coolest parts of traditional food. It connects us to our land, our rhythms, our climate, and our community in a very real (and delicious) way.

If you have a few minutes, we’d love for you to watch the segment. It’s a great reminder that:

  • small choices add up

  • local matters

  • and taking care of your health can also mean taking care of the people around you.

Here’s to a year of intention, nourishment, and stronger local connections - one meal at a time!
