AN UNFORGETTABLE JOURNEY THROUGH IRELAND’S FOOD HERITAGE

Embark on a cultural gastronomic adventure like no other as we explore the flavors, traditions and prehistory of Ireland on our exclusive food tour this July. Get ready to immerse yourself in the heart and soul of Irish cuisine, connecting with the essence of what Irish food truly represents. From coast-to-coast, we will take you on a journey that combines breathtaking landscapes, cultural immersion, and one-of-a-kind gastronomy.

As you explore the rich history and origins of Irish cuisine, you will also have the opportunity to delve into the fascinating world of archaeology. We will visit archaeological and experimental archaeology sites that offer a window into the past, providing a deeper understanding of the ingredients and cooking techniques that have shaped Irish culinary traditions throughout the millennia.

You will have the opportunity to explore the countryside, dig Irish peat, and forage for seaweed. Seaweed is an Irish resource rich in minerals and history. In addition to sampling a range of seaweed inspired dishes you will be able to relax in a private seaweed bath and literally feel the soothing effect of this incredibly nourishing resource.

Throughout the trip, you will have the privilege of meeting and learning from a diverse range of experts, including archaeologists, farmers, food producers, suppliers, chefs, and foragers. Their knowledge and expertise will enhance your understanding of Irish culinary traditions, allowing you to appreciate the stories behind each dish and the cultural significance they hold.

All meals are included and the food you will enjoy has been carefully curated to provide a multitude of opportunities to experience Ireland through the flavors, aromas, textures, appearance and even sounds of Irish ingredients interpreted through the minds and kitchens of different chefs. And, of course, you also experience the magic of traditional Irish pubs, sharing pints and the lively atmosphere that has been at the heart of Irish culture for centuries.

Two of the culinary highlights of our journey include a meal of freshly harvested North Atlantic lobster and crab prepared and served while watching the sunset on the rugged Irish coastline. And, as a grand finale, you will enjoy the once in a lifetime opportunity to dine in the home of Ireland’s first 2 Michelin Star chef, who will prepare a culinary masterpiece that highlights the best that Irish food has to offer.

During our tour, we will not only share exceptional culinary experiences but also provide you with a diverse range of accommodations, each offering a unique perspective on Ireland’s enchanting beauty. From the luxurious comfort of a five-star hotel in City Center, Dublin, to the historic charm of an estate nestled in the western countryside, and finally, the breathtaking views of the North Atlantic from cozy glamping pods near Downpatrick Head, each accommodation will transport you to a different world, adding an extra layer of magic to your experience.

A reflection from a previous food tour

One of our 2023 summer participants, Genevieve, wrote a beautiful blog with stunning photos that will give you a unique view into this one-in-a-lifetime trip.

“This was a tour of archeology, Neolithic history, Stone, Iron, Bronze ages, discovering Ireland’s first farmers, walking on the stunning Wild Atlantic coast, and food! It could not have happened without the company of the ESFL founders Bill and Christina’s generous Irish friends, specialists in their fields, each one full of stories and brimming with spirit.” Genevieve McWilliams
